Cucumber Benefits
Because of my Weight Management Project, I am currently eating a cucumber salad while working instead of eating Chips...
Now the question is... What is a Cucumber? and What are the Cucumber Benefits?
A Cucumber (scientific name Cucumis sativus) is a "Fruit" often has green skin and can be used in several ways it can be pickled for flavor and longer shelf-life.
As compared to eating cucumbers, pickling cucumbers tend to be shorter, thicker, less regularly-shaped, and have bumpy skin with tiny white- or black-dotted spines. They are never waxed. Color can vary from creamy yellow to pale or dark green. Pickling cucumbers are sometimes sold fresh as “Kirby” or “Liberty” cucumbers. The pickling process removes or degrades much of the nutrient content, especially that of vitamin C.
Pickled cucumbers are soaked in brine or a combination of vinegar and brine, although not vinegar alone, often along with various spices. Pickled cucumbers are often referred to simply as "pickles" in the U.S. or "Gherkins" or "Wallies" in the U.K, the latter name being more common in the north of England where it refers to the large vinegar-pickled cucumbers commonly sold in fish & chip shops. (Although the gherkin is of the same species as the cucumber it is of a completely different cultivar.)
Now what are the Cucumber Benefits?
1. Helps to increase fiber and water supply in our body.
2. Whether it is Eaten or Applied to skin, it can make wonders. It can provide a glowing, radiant complexion on your skin.
3. It helps in treating various skin ailments as it provides relief on sunburn and under eyes swelling (eye bags).
4. It helps drop blood pressure in healthy levels.
5. Good source of Vitamin A, Pantothenic Acid, Magnesium, Phosphorus and Manganese, Vitamin C, Vitamin K and Potassium. Potassium in it helps in treating problems of high and low blood pressure. It basically helps in stabilizing blood pressure. The vitamin A is good for eyesight. The vitamin C content in cucumber can prove to be beneficial for those suffering from diseases of the teeth and gums, especially in cases of pyorrhea, especially because it is consumed raw which helps in preserving the natural vitamin C in it.
6. Helps prevent brittle and splitting of nails of the fingers and toes. This is because it has high water content and is also rich in vitamins and minerals.
